Before Flavor Flav sold his pride and soul completely, the brother was actually socially conscious. And its only right in the wake of the lack of justice given the verdict of the Sean Bell trial in which the officers responsible for shooting an unarmed young man 51 times walks free. Is it an issue of racism solely? No, things are way too complicated as two of Sean's assailants were black officers. But one thing is sure, the brutal force used by police on too many of our brothers and sisters is out of hand. And until we can feel completely safe with them patrolling our streets instead of acting like overseers on the plantation we will not be completely free. I look forward to the day when mothers and fathers do not have to instruct their children on the "proper" behavior expected of them when stopped by a cop. Of when an officer is walking the beat I don't feel even slightly nervous. Of when the blue wall of silence is shattered and broken for ever.
